The Suzuki Swift is a sub compact car which is brought to the market by the fourth largest Japanese car maker Suzuki. The swift has been in production since the year 2000. The nameplate Swift has been used on the model Suzuki Cultus which was targeted at various markets in Europe and Asia. The Swift provides almost similar economic deliverables as the Suzuki Alto. The Swift is a super mini car which has been in production up to date. The first generation Swift was in production from 2000 to 2004 and came in option of two body styles which are the 3-door hatchback and the 5-door hatchback. Two engine options are on offer, which are the 1.3 L and the 1.5 L engines, which meets the 4-speed automatic gearbox and the 5-speed manual gearbox. The Swift closely resembles the Suzuki Kei and comes as a front wheel drive with a front engine. The first generation Swift is also known as the Suzuki Ignis in some markets.
The second generation Swift was in production from the year 2004 up to 2010 and offers three body styles; namely the 3-door hatch, the 4-door sedan and the 5-door hatch. The second generation model offers more options in the engine options. The array of engines is the 1.2 L, the 1.3 L, the 1.5 L and the 1.6 l. The second generation Swift takes on the option of the 4-speed automatic gearbox and the 5-speed manual gearbox.
The current generation Swift is the third generation which has been in production since the year 2010. It comes with the option of two engine transmission formats; which are the 4-speed automatic and the 5-speed manual. There is only one engine option which features on the current model Swift. The current Suzuki Swift makes use of one 1.4 litre engine and the model lineup consists of three options; namely the base 1.4 GL, the 1.4 GLS and the 1.4 GLS A/T. The base 1.4 GL model with the 1.4 L engine can handle a maximum power of 70kW and has a good carbon emission ratio of 132g/km. The economic nature of the vehicle is also reflected in its good fuel consumption ratio of 5.5 L per 100km, and an urban ratio of 7.0 L per 100km. With a fuel tank capacity of 42 Liters, the fuel range of the base model is 764km. The 1.4 L engine on the base model can accelerate the model from zero to 100km/hr in just 10.9 seconds, which is 1.1 seconds faster than the Alto.
The Suzuki Swift is capable of a maximum speed of 170km and can deliver a maximum torque of 130Nm at 4000 rpm. The base model uses petrol engine and adopts 4 cylinders layout on the 1.4 L engine. The GLS model distinguishes itself from the base model with the addition of curtain airbags, the Keyless Go function and Multi function steering among other distinctions. The 1.4 GLS A/T comes with the addition of such features as the 6 airbags. The model records a combined fuel consumption ratio of 6.2 L per 100km and an urban ratio of 7.8 L per 100km. The GLS A/T is capable of a top speed of 165km/hr and features climate control as standard and takes on the base features on the GLS model.
A general warranty of 3 years/100,000km is offered as general cover over the vehicle, while a service plan of 4 year/60,000km is also on offer. Service interval is set at 15,000km.
