Land Rover Range Rover Sport delivers a smooth ride
The smallest vehicle manufactured by the British 4x4 giant, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a modified version of the Land Rover Discovery, and it cuts a striking silhouette with its large-spoke alloy wheels, emphasised grille and stainless steel tread plates. Fitted with bright Bi-xenon adaptive headlights, a funky rear spoiler, stylish side vents - in what Land Rover dubs a “twin stripe” theme - the Range Rover Sport is packed with personality.
The first of Land Rover’s vehicles to be fitted with Dynamic Response suspension, the all new Land Rover Range Rover Sport is able to sense cornering forces and reduce acceleration in order to minimise body roll. This results in smooth handling and an agile ride quality that’s unbeaten in any other compact sport-utility vehicle. Other features include Enhanced Understeer Control, which balances torque by applying brake force to individual wheels. Electronic Traction Control monitors wheel speed and helps to distribute force between the wheels in order to maintain grip on slippery and uneven road surfaces.
The focus when developing the new Land Rover Range Rover Sport’s engine was to deliver the smoothest ride quality possible without increasing fuel consumption. The resulting Range Rover Sport Supercharged V8 5.0-litre engine and the Range Rover Sport Turbocharged Diesel 3.6-litre engine are two examples of the manufacturer’s success in this regard. Equipped with six-speed automatic transmission and CommandShift technology – which improves response during gear changes – the Range Rover Sport V8 models set a benchmark for driver-focused performance.
The new Range Rover Sport Supercharged and Diesel models are built on a rigid hydro-form body frame that ensures heightened protection for this SUV’s passengers. Front row, side and curtain airbags total eight airbags that scored favourably for the Sport during impact tests. Anti-locking brake systems, high-performance brake callipers and large brake discs give the Land Rover Range Rover the ability to stop safely on command. Five cameras make up the Sport’s 360-degree Surround Camera System, which helps drivers avoid objects in their blind spots and to give views through obstructed intersections. This system’s Towing Assist feature is effective for drivers who are reversing with trailers.
