The history of the Chevrolet Lumina UTE goes back in the year 1998, when car manufacturer Holden from Australia launched Holden UTE and went on sale as the Chevrolet Lumina in South Africa and Middle East. The Lumina UTE is a coupe utility, the 'UTE’s an Australian abbreviation of Utility and translated to South African means 'Bakkie'. The Lumina is identical to its brother back in Australia, with the same features on the inside and the outside. The sales of the UTE in South Africa as the Chevrolet Lumina SS commenced during 2006/2007.

The Chevrolet Lumina UTE has a 6.0L V8 Multipoint injection engine with a maximum power of 270kW and max torque of 530Nm at 4400 rpm and a capacity of 5976cc. The engine is an 8 cylinders 16 valve train with rear wheel drive. The V8 engine comes into two categories. The first is the SS Manual, with 6-speed manual transmission with an emission of CO2 of 343 g/km and fuel consumption (100km) of 13.9L. The second engine is the SS Auto, a 6-speed automatic transmission with active select, CO2 emission of 329g/km with fuel consumption (100km) of 12.9L.

The Chevrolet Lumina UTE is a genuine 6.0L V8 muscle car that was designed to execute and construct to last. The huge 18-inch sports style alloy wheels give the Lumina an unrivalled design occurrence. With the Macpherson supports the front, a stylish multi-link suspension at the back, Lumina UTE is steady at swiftness and responsive in the twirls.

The exterior also features the Halogen headlamps and the automatics on-off headlamps control. The Lumina has a dual exhaust system on each side and chrome window beading. The electric, heated, manual folding exterior mirrors are in the body colour as well as the door handles and the tailgate.

Despite being a 2-door coupe utility car, the Lumina UTE bring a set of comfort in the inside. The car has sports contoured bucket seats in leather upholstery and sports leather steering wheel. The seat has 4-way power adjustable for the driver and lumbar support for both the driver and passenger. The distinctive leather door in trim inserts and the air conditioning system with dual zone automatic climate control contribute to the luxuriousness of the interior. Other features such as the vanity mirror for driver and passenger, twin cup holder, sporty and alloy pedals and tinted windows are available in the car.

The infotainment of the Lumina features the Radio/CD Front loader with MP3 Compatibility, LCD touch screen and USB Port. The audio system is enhanced by 7 speakers and audio controls mounted on the steering wheel. The sound system also accommodates mobile phone kit with advance Bluetooth mobile connectivity and auto mute when phone is in use. The LCD touch screen has a Driver Information Centre including average speed, trip meter, distance, fuel consumption, visual, audible speed warning, and digital speedometer as well.

Concerning the safety, airbags for driver, passengers and 3-point seatbelts pretensioner have been installed in the car. Safety features such as ABS, EBD, ESP, EBA and sports suspension to reduce ride height are also available. In case of impact, Chevrolet mounted the Lumina with side impact protection bars. More Security features includes remote central locking, immobiliser, alarm system including panic alarm, door unlock button and auto door lock for the car.
