Opel Corsa 130i (1998)

Very reliable. This car is nippy, it has lots of grunt through the gears. It has a very strong and reliable engine. The short wheel base makes the ride very choppy on bumpy roads or wet surfaces so caution is advised on these driving conditions. The car is economical and trendy.

Audi A4 1.8T Multitronic (2002)

Beautiful car from all angles and an absolute pleasure to drive (when it works). The car has ample space for a family and it has a large boot. It drives very well, it has a good turning cirlce and can surprisingly (being a large sedan) can get you out of even the tiniest of spots. It has plenty of power with quick acceleration. The multitronic gearbox is a complete joke and often glitches. I have purchased it as a used vehicle but noticed that the gearbox has been "repaired" several times to no avail. If it was not for the multitronic gearbox I would say this car was about perfect and would not need to be replaced. The quality of finishes are also very good.

Chevrolet Aveo 1.5 LT (2007)

With its leather interior, climate control air conditioning, mags, ABS and all things that work electronically it certainly is a lot of car for your money and, in this category, it competes well against more expensive brands. Powered by the 8 valve 1500cc engine, this rebadged Daiwoo cannot lay claim to any performance records but, once up to speed the vehicle maintains a relatively good performance unless faced with steep mountain climbs where gearing down is a must. The electronics in the interior are generally good but irritating small problems can occur like the display section of the clock which sometimes mysteriously disapears. The cabin and boot space is adequate except that the designers overlooked the space in the boot that is wasted by the area required by the two hinge arms which demand space when the boot lid is closed. (Oops there go those eggs in the shopping bag). The vehicle is well sprung and gives a comfortable ride. The climate control works very well once the correct temperature has been selected. Fuel consumption is fair on the open road but a bit challenged in town driving dropping down from 8 to 10.5 L per 100 klms

Subaru Outback 2.5i CVT Auto (2010)

My husband and I both like the car very much. Still looking for something to dislike even after one year..... We did, however, need to buy a new tyre as the left back one got ripped apart last weekend (offroad) We discovered that the Yokohama tyres on this car cost R3000 each!!! The car has a very smooth ride. Very comfortable, even on long journeys. Just love it!

Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi SI 6-Speed Manual (2005)

This car was by far the best all-rounder I've ever had. Its light on fuel. avg 7.5L/100Km. Driving down to the coast gives you around 6.5L/100Km and that does not mean that you can't have some fun along the way either. Max consumption was around 9.5L/100km but you'd have to be late for a meeting or child birth every day of the week to average that an entire 45L tank. This car drives well, really well. It may not be the fastest or have the sportiest suspension out there, but it has just the right balance to be comfortable, quiet and make you poop yourself. Very stiff and well designed chassis. Power comes from a 2L intercooled, commonrail, direct injection engine with a variable vane turbo. 100kw, 320Nm Torque 340Nm(when overboosting). 0-100Km 9.3s Top Speed 210Km/h. (So they say) This is the same engine found on the Citroen Picasso. Citroen C4. Volvo s40 2D. I cant say too much about the gearbox really. Its good I guess. It did everything I expected it to do, but did not stand out as something special. It has ample space too. You can fit 4 beer drinkers in the back and at least 2 more in the boot. Really good, comfortable family car and lots of fun to drive when the family is not in the car. Servicing cost is middle of the pack I think. Other Ford parts are expensive though, because you can only get them from the agents AFAIK. Shame on you Ford! In terms of reliability, I never had any unreasonable problems with this car. To be honest most of my problems were caused by poor service or negligence from the Ford agents.(In my experience) Durable interior. Only when I looked at other cars of this age I realised how well this car ages. Leather looks as good as it was on day one. Perferated too, so that you dont sweat like a dog. Bottom line. Loved this car.

Hyundai Atos 1.1 GLS Prime (2007)

I have found the Atos to be a perfectly reliable, well-rounded little car. Four doors + hatch offer great convenience and versatility, with a boot larger than its closest competitors. Though it's 1.1-litre engine is slightly underpowered, it's eager and light on fuel, especially when it comes to running about town (though long road trips leave no cause for concern). Also, another major asset in the Atos' possession is the standard A/C and front electric windows. Overall, a very competent, reliable package with very few real drawbacks, especially for the price.

Hyundai Getz 1.4l (2010)

The Hyundai Getz is a reliable and surprisingly practical little car. With a great shape and good looks the Getz is better than what people give it credit for. The interior is clean and spacious inside. It comes standard with central locking, front & back electric windows and aircon, so keeping cool in summer is never a problem. It has all the necessary features you need. A really nifty feature is the speed control for the windscreen wipers. Looking like a loaf of bread on wheels, the 1.4l litre engine is very willing and even fully loaded, it can easily get up to highway speed. The Getz is very roomy for four people, and there’s a large, well-shaped boot. The fog lamps on the round bumper assist not only for better visibility, but also gives a sporty look. It’s agile and easy to drive - making it ideal for driving around town. Been driving my Getz for nearly 2 years now and still very satisfied.

Fiat Palio 1.6 litre 16 Valve (2002)

A brilliant little runabout. Still giving excellent service. The powerful 1.6 liter 16 valve engine with its original exhaust system does not use a drop of oil. Even with the costs of all services and with normal wear and tear replacement items including Tyres, Clutch plates, Batteries (2) Brake shoes, and discs etc, the running costs have been minimal.

The WRX feels great and secure. It is just a joy to drive it, the sedan is very stable in curves (I havent drive the hatchaback). A bit noisy and uncomfortable for long distances, specially when you drive it over 200 km/h :) otherwise just normal. Mine is standard options with "short" gearbox and a blow off pipe and it already give me very much fun, as I dont use it so often, every time i drive it its like !wow!!

Audi A3 1.6 Sportline (2008)

Its a great solid drive, a little harsh over the bumps with a stiff suspension and corners really well. The 1.6 is a little underpowered but manages decent fuel economy. Extra like the AUX plug for my Ipod was great. The biggest let down is the position of the handbrake or centre arm rest. If you have the centre arm rest low it interferes with the use of the handbrake.

Die kar lyk om elke hoek baie mooi, stunning lyne, sal nooit moeg raak om na hom te kyk nie. Virmy persoonlik seker die veiligste kar op die pad.

Honda Civic 1.8 I-VTEC (2008)

I bought this car in 2008 as my first car. I had some experience driving Honda Civics in the past so had an attraction to this car already. This city car is a looker. In terms of design and aesthetics, it scores really really high. Some people don't like the rear but i think when compared to other similar cars at that range, this is the most funky model, with all sorts of little details that will impress anyone. That's the good side, the little details. The board is spectacular, looks something like a space ship. It is a pleasure to drive and although I know would like to move on to a Sedan, i could easily stick to this model if i wanted to stay within this price and type range.
